c1940s Tank ring of my dreams!!
Heavy rosey 18ct yellow gold has been masterfully made in this incredible structual design of the 1940s. Due to the shortage of gold the jewellers of the time became experts are crafting rings to look very heavy and ornate whilst keeping it to a wearable weight. They used big panels, arcs, volutes and so many beautifully architectural motifs to achieve these unique styles!
This beauty has a story to tell with her large old mine cut diamond which were often used from older family pieces and remodeled due to the diamond shortage of the time. Her square cut shoulder sapphires also tell a story with one being original and synthetic (common for the time) and one being an Australian parti sapphire. I like to imaging the original owner was European and travel to Australia to start a new life and eventually lost one of the original synthetic sapphires and thought to replace it with a local substitute, perhaps because they were more available or to represent her new home. Either way I love it as it is and it's part of her story.
