Absolutely thrilled to bring this amazing scarab signet to sale. Many of you will be happy to know this is not a real scarab shell but rather a remarkably realistic black glass replica with incredible detail!! Scarabs hold so much symbolism from the times of Ancient Egypt when they were worshiped as representations of transformation and rebirth. They were often adorning the sarcophagi and found in ancient jewellery and head pieces. Scarabs were popular in jewellery again around the time they discovered King Tuts tomb in 1922 then the Egyptian motifs really took over the jewellery world again. There is some gold paint along the edges that shows the ridges and bumbs marking this as a high quality piece. The glass mould even has the leg details which you can see through the cutout below the setting. This is a very rare piece and I have only seen a few of the glass replicas that look so realistic. It looks to have been hand painted and c1930s so everything you want but without having to carry a real beetle 😉. The setting is made of 9ct yellow gold and is just gorgeous with a simple yet heavy signet design and multi claws to hold this glass securly. It absolutely looks like something Cleopatra would have worn. Being glass some care is required but the edges are well protected from chips. Some light wear to gold.
